Daily Reflections 12 – 18 November

·

Wednesday 12 November

In the restless heart of the streets we walk, leadership and power take many forms. Yet true authority begins with service; it listens to the voiceless and honours the weak. When we rule only for ourselves, we build walls; when we serve in love, we build God’s dwelling among us.
Wisdom 6: 1–11 (NRSV)

Thursday 13 November

Wisdom is God’s breath moving through the neighbourhood, amid the hum of traffic and conversation. It waits at the crossings, lingers in the faces of strangers, and softens the edges of ambition. In the rhythm of each day, Wisdom whispers—be still; be kind; be true.
Wisdom 7: 22b – 8: 1 (NRSV)

Friday 14 November

The skyline dazzles with light, yet many fail to see its source. Every beauty here—glass towers, laughter, the shimmer of rain—speaks of the Creator. To live contemplatively is to look again, to notice grace hidden beneath the noise and movement of our shared life.
Wisdom 13: 1–9 (NRSV)

Saturday 15 November

In the hush before dawn, God’s Word moves quietly through the human hive. Stillness is the sea that parts our fear. Each morning is an Exodus—God making a way through impossibility, calling us to walk in trust and find freedom in ordinary ground.
Wisdom 18: 14–16; 19: 6–9 (NRSV)

Sunday 16 November

The sun rises between buildings, warmth spills into the cold corners of the town. Love is God’s refining fire; it purifies, not consumes. Healing begins where fear yields to light, where we let our hearts burn again with mercy for all who dwell here.
Malachi 4: 1–2a (NRSV)

Monday 17 November

There are idols in every marketplace—comfort, speed, success. The faithful heart must choose simplicity amid abundance, truth amid noise. To follow Christ in these crowded places is to stay awake, resisting easy belonging, holding fast to love that cannot be bought.
1 Maccabees 1: 10–15, 41–43, 54–57, 62–63 (NRSV)

Tuesday 18 November

Courage is rarely loud. Like Eleazar, the quiet saints of the suburbs and streets witness through integrity, patience, and care. Their fidelity sanctifies the pavements we tread. Holiness here is not escape but presence—God discovered in the ordinary pattern of our days.
2 Maccabees 6: 18–31 (NRSV)
